These functions include the following:
- Participation in all the planning by the controlling authority, which relates to the School of Nursing.
- Preparation of the School budget and making recommendations in this regard to the controlling authority.
- Organization and administration of the curriculum.
- Active participation in the teaching programme.
- Periodic evaluation of the total programme.
- Setting standards and striving to raise the standards set.
- Formulation and implementation of realistic policies in relation to staff, students and programme.
- Determining staff requirement.
- Preparation of job descriptions for all members of the School staff.
- Planning and implementation of a continuous in-service education programme for the staff.
- Recruitment and selection of students in accordance with the policy of the controlling authority.
- Maintenance of a proper system of records.
- Furnishing of such periodic reports as are required by the controlling authority, by State and National Nursing Councils.
- Participation in planning for nursing services in the clinical areas in which students are employed.
- Interpretation of nursing education to other related discipline and to the public.
- Review regularly the existing training material and aids so as to upgrade them.
- Recruitment of suitable staff in accordance with the policies of the controlling authority.
