These functions include the following:

1. Participation in all the planning by the controlling authority, which relates to the School of Nursing.
2. Preparation of the School budget and making recommendations in this regard to the controlling authority.
3. Organization and administration of the curriculum.
4. Active participation in the teaching programme.
5. Periodic evaluation of the total programme.
6. Setting standards and striving to raise the standards set.
7. Formulation and implementation of realistic policies in relation to staff, students and programme.
8. Determining staff requirement.
9. Preparation of job descriptions for all members of the School staff.
10. Planning and implementation of a continuous in-service education programme for the staff.
11. Recruitment and selection of students in accordance with the policy of the controlling authority.
12. Maintenance of a proper system of records.
13. Furnishing of such periodic reports as are required by the controlling authority, by State and National Nursing Councils.
14. Participation in planning for nursing services in the clinical areas in which students are employed.
15. Interpretation of nursing education to other related discipline and to the public.
16. Review regularly the existing training material and aids so as to upgrade them.
17. Recruitment of suitable staff in accordance with the policies of the controlling authority.
